With the development in technology,
air rifles have definitely taken a turn over. You can find rifles for every
purpose ranging from hunting to everyday plunking. Additionally, the air rifles
are in different shapes and sizes. Most of
the air rifles are underrated but it is always advisable to have one for
survival. This is because they have been designed for everyone. However, you
have to ensure that you get to know about the technical side before you start
choosing the air rifle. Have a clear image or overview of the air rifle that
you need to use. Ensure that you select one for the right purpose. This is
because air rifles are designed for different purposes. Before choosing an air
rifle, ask yourself the following questions.
- What are the features of the air rifle?
- Is it fit for my purpose?
- What is the intention of using the air rifle?
- How far do you intend to shoot?
- How much do you intend to spend?
- What is the best rifle scope for hunting?
With these considerations in mind
you have to understand that there are three main types of air rifle. Your choice
will depend on the purpose and intention.
Carbon IV oxide powered
The main advantage of this air
rifle is that it is easy to use. No pumping is required. Additionally, it is
available in different shapes and sizes hence you have a variety to choose
from. The sizes range from 12 to 88 grams. Nonetheless, they are expensive
because they use CO2 canisters which are costly to obtain. They CO2 canisters
are disposable thus you dispose once you use them. Advancement of technology
has resulted in semi automation of the CO2 powered rifles. A good example of
this is the Crosman 1077 air rifle.
Pneumatic air rifle
There are mainly two types of
pneumatic rifles they are pump-up and
pre-charged. The difference comes in
with the way they are operated.
Pump-up
Pump-up mainly comprises air
mainly using a built in pumping lever. Because of this they are very powerful. However,
for them to be effective much effort is required. They are not also effective
for hunting because of the noise. You have to pump them for each and every
shoot.
Pre-charged pneumatics
They are extremely powerful when
using them. Most of them are made from high quality materials. Additionally,
they can operate automatically thus they do not require much effort. They are
also accurate when you use them. The major drawback is the high initial cost
which is very high.
Spring Piston
This is another type of air rifle
which is very easy to operate. When it is fired the spring simply pushes the
piston forward. This propels the charge of the air into the main barrel. They are
very accurate and powerful in operation. When using this type of air rifle
there are three main 'mechanisms of cocking. They are under lever, barrel and
side cocking. All the methods depend on the placement of the lever. However,
side and under lever is the most accurate. The main drawback is that it is costly
to acquire.
With the above information on the
advantages and disadvantages of air rifles you will be in position to know how
to choose the best air rifle.
